Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport has opened a new co-working and meeting space as part of a project to redevelop its Departures 1 Lounge.
The Spaces Lounge, part of the airport's ongoing collaboration with office space provider IWG, features six "fully-equipped" work areas with capacity for more than 100 people, four meeting rooms and an adjacent restaurant.
Located above the airport’s Departure Hall 1, the offices and meeting space can be booked “for a fee” and are open to the public (not restricted to departing travellers).
Catering partner, HMSHost Nederland, will provide food and drink options at both Spaces Lounge and the nearby Panorama Restaurant, which the airport is also positioning as "an accessible meeting place".
“With the return of business travellers, we saw the demand for airport facilities change,” said HMSHost Europe regional managing director, Sytze van der Aa.
IWG Benelux regional vice president, Gavin Phillips, added the company has seen a “growing customer demand” for flexible workspaces at airports and train stations.
The new lounge at Schiphol is part of IWG's plan to open “at least 200 new flex offices in the Netherlands over the coming five years,” according to Phillips, and is the second co-working space at the airport, joining Spaces Schiphol Airport, where IWG collaborated with Microsoft.
