Technology company Amadeus has extended its
secure Traveler ID platform to integrate
with digital health information aggregators, such as CommonPass and ICC AOKpass, as well as medical
testing centres to enable passengers to provide evidence of their health status
without leaving their airline website or app.
The system can be used by passengers either
before departure or while at the airport, when checking in at the airline desk,
at a self-service kiosk or bag drop.
“Self-service check-in is a fundamental
step for passengers to flow smoothly through an airport and onto a plane. Yet
the current need for manual checks of health documentation, while maintaining
social distancing, means that some of our airline customers currently require
around 90 per cent of their usual check-in staff to process just 30 per cent of
passengers,” said Monika Wiederhold, Amadeus’ EVP airlines central & eastern
Europe.
“All travel providers are united in our aim
to strengthen traveller confidence, and the new capability that we are
announcing today will help support that by reducing queues and bottlenecks
throughout the journey,” added Wiederhold.
Amadeus says the functionality is agnostic for any airline passenger service system meaning it can be integrated as a standalone option by carriers without having to contract the full Traveler ID platform.
