The UK government has announced that it is allow e-gates at
the country’s airports to validate passenger locator forms. All passengers currently have to complete the forms prior to their arrival in the country and will continue to need to do so once the traffic-light system announced this week comes into force.
In the report of the global travel taskforce published today,
the government said, “The use of e-gates is currently restricted due to
reliance on manual compliance checks. However, in the longer-term e-gates will
be used to check completion of the passenger locator form, both to provide
strong assurance that arrivals are complying with requirements and to support
passenger flows.
"Carrier checks also continue to be in place to bolster
assurance on passenger compliance. Border Force will roll out e-gates
integration across the largest airports by summer 2021 and all e-gate ports of
entry by autumn 2021.”
The government also said it would translate the form into
other languages.
