Air China is to further increase flights between Geneva and Beijing by adding a fifth weekly service on the route from the start of April.
The carrier is currently the only operator on this route and will increase frequency with a new flight to Beijing on Wednesdays.
Air China and other Chinese airlines have been building up their services to Europe following the Covid-19 pandemic. This has included Air China resuming flights between Munich and Shanghai in January, as well as relaunching the route between London Gatwick and Beijing on 1 June.
Airline analyst OAG has noted that several markets in Europe, including the UK, Spain, Italy and Turkey, have seen “strong airline capacity growth” to and from China, with the overall number of scheduled seats in 2024 now above 2019 levels in these countries.
Although capacity to and from China currently remains below pre-Covid levels in Germany, France and the Netherlands.
This growth is being largely led by China-based airlines, which have increased their overall market share on routes to Europe in all of the major European aviation markets compared with 2019.
