Aeromexico is strengthening its European operations by adding an extra flight from Heathrow and introducing Amsterdam as a new destination.
The Mexican carrier, which currently flies five times per week from Heathrow to Mexico City, will add a sixth weekly frequency from June 4, 2016. The new flight will depart Heathrow on Sunday, with the outbound flight leaving Mexico City on Saturday.
Aeromexico has been building up capacity on the Heathrow-Mexico City route and added a fourth and fifth weekly frequency during 2015.
The Skyteam carrier is also to launch a route between Mexico City and Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport from May 29, 2016, which will be Aeromexico’s fourth destination in Europe.
Mexico City-Amsterdam flights will operate three times per week using a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft with capacity for 243 passengers including 32 seats in the business class cabin.
Anko van der Werff, Aeromexico's chief revenue officer, said: “The Netherlands is Mexico’s fourth largest trading partner in the European Union, and nowadays, an average of 200,000 annual passengers travel between both cities.”
Aeromexico added that one of the “key factors” in deciding to launch a route to Amsterdam was that it was a major hub for Skyteam due to KLM’s extensive route network from Schiphol.
