Japan’s All Nippon Airways (ANA) is rolling out free high-speed wifi on all international flights, the carrier announced this week.
The airline is working to install wifi equipment from US firm Viasat on its medium-haul B767-300ER aircraft, with plans to equip more than 80 per cent of its international fleet with free high-speed internet connectivity by the end of 2030.
Tomoji Ishii, ANA’s executive vice president, customer experience, said the new technology will provide “seamless” in-flight connectivity that is capable of video streaming, “mirroring ground-level performance”.
By the end of 2025, three B767-300ER aircraft will feature the upgraded system, with an additional three scheduled in 2026. The carrier's long-haul B777-9 and B787-9 aircraft will be fitted with the technology from 2026. ANA also stated that all new international aircraft will be equipped with the Viasat system.
