Wyndham Worldwide is to open its first Wyndham-branded hotel in China later this year. The Wyndham Xiamen hotel, which will house 550 rooms over 26 floors, is now under construction in the centre of Xiamen city, Fujian Province.
As the first fully managed property in the Asia Pacific region, the hotel marks a significant step in the group”s development plans. President and CEO Steven Rudnitsky explained: ”Our upscale Wyndham brand will ensure that we are represented in China”s major segments along with our upper-midscale Ramada hotels, upscale Days Inn and Howard Johnson hotels and upper-economy Super 8 brand.
”We anticipate strong growth of the Wyndham brand in China. Our overall strategy is to identify and pursue flagship Wyndham hotel properties in key international and gateway cities.”
Xiamen, located on the south east coast of China, is a key city for foreign investment and has commercial links with Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. Unlike Wyndham hotels in the US that are built to upscale standards, the Wyndham Xiamen and other Wyndham hotels developed in China, will be luxury properties.
Business facilities at the hotel include: 1,500sq m (4,921sq ft) of meeting space, featuring a 1,000sq m (3,280sq ft) ballroom, a boardroom and additional function rooms. A choice of three restaurants, a 300sq m (984sq ft) lounge, fitness room, sauna and swimming pool will also be available.
