Starwood’s first W Hotel in the UK has opened its doors on London’s Leicester Square.
The 10-storey hotel is the 40th W to open worldwide, and marks an important milestone in the development of the brand, said W’s Eva Ziegler.
The global brand leader said: “From New York City, the birthplace of W Hotels, to London – from Times Square to Leicester Square – this iconic opening is sure to propel the W brand in its continued transformation into a global powerhouse.”
The opening also marks a new phase in the redevelopment of Leicester Square, which is currently undergoing a facelift.
The gardens in the centre are being redeveloped by the local council, and a new Premier Inn hotel is set to open on the square Spring 2012, following a £6 million investment.
W London has 193 bedrooms, including 21 suites, plus Spice Market – a signature restaurant from the three Michelin-starred chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
The hotel also features the Wyld bar, a Sweat gym, an Away spa, and a 3D state of the art screening room with seating for 38 people.
