Travelodge is transferring 18 hotels in the UK to other operators including Best Western, Ibis and Metro Inns.
The budget hotel chain is making the move as part of its financial restructuring package which was agreed with creditors in October 2012.Travelodge said that current bookings at these hotels have been transferred to other nearby Travelodge properties or will be honoured by the new operators.
Another 20 Travelodge properties are being transferred to new owners but will continue to operate as Travelodge hotels under franchise agreements.
A further 11 hotels are continuing to trade under the Travelodge brand on a temporary basis until the landlords are able to find new operators for their properties.
Travelodge chief executive Grant Hearn said:“It is great news that we have been able to find new operators and introduce franchise contracts for the majority of these hotels.
“We were always confident that we would secure a future for these properties and the deals that have taken place just demonstrate the huge strength of the Travelodge brand and the success of our operations model.
“Going forward, we are very excited to continue to grow our business, strengthen our product offering and make Travelodge the best value hotel chain in the UK.”
Travelodge’s hotels are currently going through a £57 million refurbishment programme with more than 50 per cent of its 37,000 rooms due to be refurbished by the end of 2013. The chain operates around 500 properties in the UK, Ireland and Spain.
