Budget hotel chain Travelodge has opened its first hotel in Dover as the brand looks to expand in the UK’s ten busiest port cities.
Dover Travelodge features 108 guest rooms, a Bar Cafe and an on-site car park. It represents a £9 million investment for the property’s landlord, Legal & General, and Dover District Council’s development partner Bond City.
The hotel overlooks Dover Castle and is located close to the city’s cruise terminal. Each room features en-suite facilities with eco-friendly showers, a flat-screen TV, free tea and coffee-making facilities and wifi.
Travelodge says it is looking for a further ten hotel sites near the UK’s busiest cruise ports, representing a £60 million investment and 300 new jobs. Locations on the chain’s radar include Edinburgh, Glasgow, Harwich, Hull, Liverpool, Newcastle, Poole, Portsmouth, Southampton and Tilbury.
The company says it has seen a boost in occupancy at its properties located near cruise ports as a result of an increase in Brits taking cruises.
Tony O’Brien, property director at Travelodge, commented: “Not only have we opened our first hotel in Dover but this opening also cements our presence at the UK’s top ten busiest cruise ship ports.”
