Starwood, owners of the Sheraton, Le Meridien, St Regis, Westin and The Luxury Collection brands is to introduce W Hotel ”boutique” properties in both London and Manchester in 2010.
Launched in 2006, W Hotels is what Starwood describes as a global lifestyle brand currently with 23 establishments worldwide, and a planned doubling in size by the time the British properties open.
W London-Leicester Square will be built on the site of the former Swiss Centre building in the heart of Leicester Square, one of the finest landmark positions available in the West End. The new hotel will feature 194 luxurious guest rooms and ten two-level, luxury branded residences, as well as a signature spa, fitness facility, a world-class destination restaurant and W's exclusive Living Room experience where guests are invited to mix, mingle and relax in a stylish social atmosphere.
In Manchester the setting is Princess Street in the heart of the city, within walking distance of Piccadilly Station. Designed by Ian Simpson, the hotel will boast approximately 160 guest rooms to the highest standards, a 4,000 square foot ballroom, 3,000 square feet of meeting and event space, a signature spa, fitness facility, a W Hotels The Store retail store, and once again a world-class destination restaurant.
In Europe, W Hotels recently opened the W Istanbul and has announced new W Hotels underway in Athens, Barcelona, Istanbul, Milan and St Petersburg. In Asia, W has made public developments in Bangkok, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Macao-Studio City, Shanghai and Yokohama. In Latin America, W has confirmed a hotel in Santiago and in the Middle East, and has announced properties in Amman, Doha, Dubai-Festival City and Dubai-The Palm. W”s first Retreat & Spa, W Maldives, opened in September of 2006.
