Starwood has added two hotels to its Sheraton-branded portfolio in Japan under a franchise agreement with Kintetsu Hotel Systems, the hotel operating division of Kintetsu Corporation. The Sheraton Miyako Hotel Tokyo and the Sheraton Miyako Hotel Osaka will be re-branded in April this year.
There are currently 14 Starwood hotels in Japan, under the Le M”ridien, Sheraton and Westin brands. The additional Sheraton properties will increase its presence in the country by 1,067 rooms ” 492 in Tokyo and 575 in Osaka.
”We are confident that the Sharaton brand will strengthen our marketing and sales efforts to drive international business to the hotels and to these destinations, as well as enhance the awareness of these two great hotels in the competitive markets of Tokyo and Osaka,” said Kintetsu hotel Systems president Yasuyuki Suzuki.
Minor renovations to guestrooms and the health spa will take place at the Tokyo property, which is located in the Shirokane district close to business and commercial centres such as Shinagawa, Ebisu and Shibuya. It boasts five restaurants and more than 9,800sq m (32,152 sq ft) of meeting space.
Situated in Osaka”s Uehonmachi district, the Sheraton Miyako Osaka hotel is close to the city”s business district, adjacent to a major railway station with connections to Tokyo and Kyoto. Improvements will be made to the rooms and meeting areas, although there are no plans to alter the other facilities, which include seven restaurants, a health club, three wedding chapels and three wedding halls.
