Starwood Hotels & Resorts is soon to introduce its first hotel in Prague when the former Golden Gate Hotel reopens next autumn as the Sheraton Prague Charles Square.
The hotel, located in the Old Town near Charles Bridge and Wenceslas Square, has been closed for extensive refurbishments since 1 July, 2007.
With 100 rooms and suites to be added to the property, taking its total to 160, the hotel will be spread across four adjacent buildings overlooking a central courtyard. Meeting and conference facilities are to be updated and extended, offering two flexible spaces, the larger of which is capable of hosting 100.
Starwood could provide no further details regarding development plans, having only recently signed the management agreement with owner Orchid Investment. More information is promised shortly.
Somewhat further ahead is the opening of another Starwood hotel in the Czech capital in early 2009, the Le Royal Meridi”n Prague. This five-star property will house 165 rooms and is situated in the old town ” a listed building currently used as the head office of a bank.
