Ever wondered where all those odd socks disappear to, leaving you with a pile of mismatched footwear? Park Plaza hotels have the answer, for their guests at least.
According to a recent survey of Park Plaza hotels in London, an average of 14 odd socks are left behind each month.
Around half of all the items of lost property found in the hotel group’s six central London hotels are socks.
Razors, however, also rank highly (21%), while books make up 14% of lost property and nightwear 12%.
It’s not only odd socks hotel staff discover – recently one forgetful guest left behind a bag of money, and another a false leg.
Simon Mahon, general manager of Park Plaza County Hall, said: “With guests from around the world walking through our doors every year, there’s not much that can surprise my staff or me, although finding a pair of stilts was new to all of us.”
Park Plaza keeps all its lost property for three months, before donating anything of value to charity. The cash was quickly reclaimed by its owner, however.
As for those odd socks, apparently they are often sent back to their owners, who are so forgetful that they leave something else behind as well which needs to be returned.
The number of odd socks you own is an indicator of how forgetful you are, it seems.
