LONDON'S Cumberland Hotel has been a landmark at Marble Arch since its opening in the 1930s. Now part of Thistle, the hotel has been closed for the last 12 months whilst a major £95m refurbishment scheme has been undertaken.
The new, for it is basically new, hotel is hardly recognisable and features a fusion of design and technology and wide open spaces in the public areas.
The 900-guestroom property is the first in the UK to operate under Thistle”s new de luxe brand called Guoman.
In the lobby sculpture and two-dimensional pieces from some of the UK”s leading contemporary artists are exhibited together with electronic projections on water and a unique sound installation.
All the rooms are air-conditioned and offer plasma or LCD screens plus Internet.
There are over 20 meeting rooms accommodating the smallest number and up to 300 theatre style, whilst the many food outlets include ”The Market” which offers eleven food styles served from five separate oven kitchens.
