InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has added the Grand H”tel Stockholm to its portfolio under a franchise agreement effective from 1 January 2008.
Located on the city”s waterfront at the S”dra Blasieholmshammen, the building dates back to 1874 and has been a luxury hotel for some 133 years. The property features 376 guest rooms, all of which are individually designed, including 43 suites with Princess Lilian Suite and Flag suite on the top floors offering panoramic views across the city.
Hotel amenities include 24-hour conference and meeting venues, a spa and health club, and two restaurants and a bar overlooking the city ” the Veranda Restaurant, Restaurant Mathias and Cadier Bar.
”This is a fantastic addition to our portfolio; we are delighted we have secured such a great location to further our brand presence in Europe,” said IHG Europe chief operating officer, Jennifer Fox.
”We believe that this new property will continue to strengthen our position in a market to which we are committed and we are extremely proud to be working on this development, with more exciting developments being planned.”
IHG”s acquisition of the Grand H”tel Stockholm furthers a period of extensive growth for the InterContinental brand that has seen the opening of InterContinental Boston, a fully renovated InterContinental in London”s Park Lane and the company”s first InterContinental in Los Angeles.
Future developments include three openings in China later this year, as well as the InterContinental Dubai Festival City. The company has also signed a franchise agreement for a property in Dresden, Germany, formerly the somewhat unpronounceable Hotel am Zwinger Betriebsgesellschaft.
