FCm Travel Solutions has issued a white paper which highlights potential difficulties facing business travellers during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Simple rules of supply and demand will result in price hikes for air travel, accommodation and train trains during July and August, Ciarán Kelly, general manager, FCm Travel Solutions, said.
Keeping within policy and budget during the period will require forward planning, he said.
Hotel availability will be an issue, as many hotels in London have agreed to set aside a certain number of rooms for Olympic visitors. While rates for rooms earmarked for Olympic sales have been capped, prices for the remaining inventory, according to travel industry suppliers, will be subject to supply and demand, and therefore potential increases.
Other issues raised in the white paper focus on the potential disruptions to travel in and around London. Currently there are 3.5 million daily journeys made by local residents or visitors on the London Underground system. During the games London’s transport system will have to support an estimated 20 million extra trips made by spectators.
FCm also expects that security and visa checks at the airports will take more time as more visitors arrive in the capital.
The Olympic Games takes place between 27 July and 12 August 2012, with the Paralympic Games starting just over a fortnight later.
