The new survey by Barclaycard Business shows that 78% of UK business travellers travelled as much or more in 2006 as they did in 2005.
The 11th annual Travel Survey, released today (Feb 6), found that 44% travelled more in the last year with 34% travelling about the same.
The survey also found that 79% of people believed that travelling was essential and benefited their business.
Only 3% said they could have achieved the same results without travelling.
Of the 44% who travelled more in 2006, nearly half (47%) said it was because their business was expanding either in the UK or abroad.
But the survey found that the horizons of UK travellers remained quite low. The most visited regions were the UK and Ireland (which 73% said they had been to in 2006), Western Europe (51%) and Canada and the USA (21%).
Emerging markets figured less strongly with only 10% going to Eastern Europe, 10% to Asia Pacific, 6% each to the Middle East and China, 5% to Africa and only 3% to India.
Denise Leleux, director of commercial cards, Barclaycard Business said: "It is clear that despite modern communications such as video conferencing people still believe that travel is an essential part of business.
"The vast majority of business people accept that travelling is still efficient and effective and that without it they could not produce the same results."
* Barclaycard questioned 4,000 business travellers, including ceos, directors, managers and executives, across the UK for its survey.
