Travel companies are ahead of all other sectors when it comes to online marketing, according to results from the Online Marketing 2007 survey, conducted by Centaur Media.
The industry is leading the way with new media adoption, as an impressive 100% of respondents plan to invest in email marketing, 87% in search marketing and 73% in social media such as networking sites, within the coming year.
Indeed social media was seen as the biggest growth area by 66% of the travel companies surveyed, with one in five respondents now spending more than half of their total marketing budget online ” almost double that of the previous year.
However, the industry is lagging behind marketing agencies, retailers and the financial services sector when it comes to mobile marketing, with an average investment of only 6%.
Areas for marketing improvement include campaign planning, with 60% saying they were concerned about it, as well as effective campaign tracking (47%), creative design and legal training.
