SAS has announced bold plans to cut carbon emissions by 20% by 2020.
The Scandinavian airline said could achieve this aim by "implementing energy enhancements and mixing jet fuel with renewable sources."
The airline acknowledged the ambitious plan would require tough short and long term measures.
It said the global aviation industry would have to develop new technologies like renewable fuel and build aircraft with improved aerodynamics and more efficient engines.
SAS said a Single European Sky would also have ot be introducved if it were to achieve its goal.
It would also take its own measures to cut CO2 emissions, including, from 2011 using only environmentally friendly cars for airline business.
