ISRAEL, one of the first countries to spring into action following the tsunami on Boxing Day, has for the first time ever dispatched an El Al 747 passenger aircraft to Indonesia as part of Jewish state's relief effort in the disaster area. Israeli government officials ordered that all aid be dispatched to all stricken countries, including those that it does not have diplomatic relations with. The help has mostly been well received but not in all cases. Israel, with a total population less than many of the cities on the periphery of the Indian Ocean and very experienced in rapid response emergencies was one of the quickest nations in organising doctors and other healthcare personnel, medical supplies, tents, food, blankets, even baby nappies (diapers).
