THE US NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION SAFETY BOARD recorded 62 incidents in which both commercial and home-made aircraft crashed in the week ending 22 January. Describing one incident, an air cargo spokesperson said, "I don't think I'd classify it as a crash." This after his company's jumbo jet caught fire on landing and pictures show a partially-burned jet, with one wing lying on the side of the runway. Obviously, just a simple mechanical failure.
