As new Transport Secretary, Ruth Kelly, publishes a refreshingly dynamic 30-year plan for the UK rail network, some of the operators seem to be taking a more laid-back approach.
Midland Mainline began the week with an announcement about 24 lost teddy bears at St Pancras station, with a lost property officer claiming it was ”very worrying that people can forget their bears.”
Just hours later another report came in, again from Midland Mainline, regarding its flower displays in Sheffield station. It seems the operator has chosen to spend money on designer floral arrangements, which according to area business manager, Claire Ansley, ”show that we take pride in our place of work.”
And just when you think it can”t get more ridiculous, First Capital Connect trumps the lot with a bizarre, eight-legged ”Monster Duathlon” around Loch Ness, starring Alistair Campbell as team leader. At least that's for charity.
