The Weekend Herald in New Zealand reports the story of a young man who drove into a parking area late one evening, stumbled up to the desk and demanded a room for the night.
The problem was he was drunk and the man behind what appeared to be a check-in was the duty sergeant. He had confused the local police station (and its parking lot) for the Holiday Inn next door. The ubiquitous hotel chain failed to gain any business from that traveller.
The sergeant didn't ask to see his credit card either. Payment has been deferred until a visit to a magistrate!
