Indian Airlines is embroiled in a tricky dispute with its hostesses, some of whom it reckons are a touch on the portly side. Talking about a lady”s weight is never easy, but the Indian press is saying that hosties have been dismissed after the tale of the tape was a little too snug.
The airline has an exhaustive table of just how much each should weigh ” minimum 4”9” and 6st 1lb/maximum 6”2 and 11st 7lb, while only a miserly personal excess baggage of 6.6lb is permitted round the midriff.
The carrier is about to increase its own weight by merging with Air India, whose spokesman said: ”We are very particular about the weight of our hostesses on board ” we are from the eastern part of the world.”
East or west, it seems we”re all putting on the pounds ” apart from Virgin and Singapore Airlines crews of course.
