With nothing but a chair and some helium balloons, Kent Couch from Bend, Oregon (only in America), has fulfilled every environmentalist”s dream by managing to fly without accruing a carbon footprint.
Couch tied 105 balloons to his garden seat and used four large bags of water strapped to each leg as ballast. He then boarded the vessel with an inflight phone (his mobile), an entertainment system (GPS and video camera), plus his choice of onboard catering for a scenic nine hour journey that took him some 200 miles to the town of La Grande.
Not wanting to chance his luck over Hells Canyon, Couch commenced his descent by popping some of the balloons, to land safely in a farmer”s field. However, he hadn”t factored in the effect of disembarking, which left him staring after his contraption as it took to the skies again shortly after touch down.
Anyone who has seen his flying machine is asked to get in touch.
