FASTTRACK, BBC World”s travel news programme, this week features India. The country has been using the slogan ”Incredible India” to promote itself around the world as a tourist destination. India”s new Minister of Tourism, Renuka Chowdhury, is a highly respected senior member of the ruling Congress Party, and many political insiders say that her appointment emphases the importance that the government places on tourism. There”s a visit to the southern state of Kerala, and India”s first privately operated airport, in Cochin. The programme joins visitors at the annual fair in Pushkar in Rajasthan, where every year thousands of Hindu pilgrims converge for a holy dip in a sacred lake to ”wash away the sins of a lifetime”. And there”s a report on the Bollywood films studios that are now organizing special tours for visiting fans.
