COMPANY CAR DRIVERS are wasting up to one-third of their time on the road stuck in traffic jams, according to research by Europcar.
Calling for further government investment in the UK's road network, Europcar's corporate sales director David McNeill warned: "Congestion is clearly having an impact on the nation's economic profitability at a time when businesses are really under pressure to be as cost-effective and efficient as possible."
More than 70 per cent of the survey sample of more than 300 businesses said congestion is impacting the effectiveness of their staff; 80 per cent felt congestion is worsening.
Two out of fi ve respondents estimated that as much as 20 per cent of every business journey was spent stuck in traffic, but an additional 29 per cent reckoned travellers were gridlocked, wasting as much as 30 per cent of journey time.
Adds McNeill: "While significant investment has been made in our road network it simply isn't enough. We drastically need better measures to ease congestion."
