Across the board rises in travel costs for air, hotels, rail, meetings and car rental is forecast for 2008 by BCD Travel.
The travel management company's consulting arm Advito said, in its annual Industry Forecast, it expected air fares to rise by 2-4%
But the rise for business travellers could be less than 2%, "thanks to an increase in corporate discounts."
For hotels, there is likely to be a 6-9% increase although in some European markets the rise might be lower because of over-capacity.
But Advito said it expected most markets to continue to grow and warned that there could be double-digit growth in some parts of the world.
It predicted that meetings costs would also rise by between 8-10% with destinations likely to be in line in areas where companies are expanding, like the fast growing Asia Pacific and Middle East.
Car rental will also see increased prices of between 5-7%, continuing a growth trend predicted last year.
On rail, there will also be increase but Advito gives no figures. While fares are expected to rise, Advito said "increased productivity gains for traveller and travel arranger alike are expected with the introduction of rail booking through traditional channels."
There would also be no end to the frustration many travellers experience at airports with "extended flight times, escalating airport chaos due to flight cancellations and long lines at
airport security checkpoints."
Advito said that companies "will need to focus on helping their travellers stay productive in less-than-optimal conditions."
Mary Ellen George, Advito's general manager, said: "Over the past two years, we've seen strong, sustained growth in business travel, and this continues to drive industry prices higher.
"We expect growth - and higher prices - to continue through 2008.
"Tight market conditions are placing a higher demand on the skills and expertise of
travel buyers and travellers to meet travel policy requirements."
