A new survey has found that constant Zoom meetings and remote working is having a demotivating effect on business travellers.
The survey of 2,000 UK travellers for IHG Hotels and Resorts found that 30 per cent say they are feeling demotivated by the lack of travel while 38 per cent said business travel improves their overall mood and makes them more motivated.
Almost half (48 per cent) said business travel allowed them to create more meaningful relationships with colleagues, customers and clients. Some 40 per cent of those surveyed said they miss face-to-face meetings while a quarter said business travel helps them work smarter.
For many, business travel is a chance to escape home life. The survey found that 38 per cent of travellers miss having time and space to themselves. The other benefits are more tangible - 34 per cent said they missed a comfortable bed while 20 per cent are missing the ability to order room service.
IHG’s Karin Sheppard, managing director for Europe, said: “With so many looking forward to rebooking missed experiences, whether it’s travelling to spend time with family, a trip away with friends, or travelling for work – it’s evident that there’s a hunger for human connection again.”
Sheppard was a guest in our most recent episode of the In Conversation With… podcast.
