American Airlines has launched an app for users of Google’s Android mobile operating system.
The app is similar to the airline’s iPhone and iPad applications, of which the carrier has now recorded more than one million downloads. The Android app allows mobile check-in plus the receipt of gate number, boarding pass, seat and flight status information. Users are able to monitor the standby list, track their frequent flier status progress and receive terminal maps.
The carrier’s managing director of interactive marketing Rick Elieson said one in four smartphone users now had an Android device.
“Not only does this meet the needs of many of our customers while they’re on the move, it also paves the way for innovation on other devices that use the Android platform,” he said.
The app is free to download from the Android Market.
