A former World War II British Red Cross hospital in the Surrey Hills area is set to open as a luxury hotel following an extensive renovation.
The Queen Anne-style country house dates back to the 1900s and acted as a rehabilitation centre for wounded soldiers during the way. The British Red Cross opened the house to the public until it was purchased by Alexander Hotels in 2016.
The new owners of Barnett Hill will re-open the hotel with an exclusive champagne and canapé reception on 20 September, marking the end of phase one of the renovation project that has transformed it into a four-star property.
Barnett Hill now features 56 guest rooms and suites, as well as a selection of nine meetings and events spaces that can accommodate up to 70 delegates. The venue is also available for exclusive use Monday to Thursday, while the extensive grounds offer a location for team-building activities and summer parties.
Peter Hinchcliffe, co-owner of Barnett Hill, said: “We are so pleased with the end results of phase one of Barnett Hill’s renovation. The hotel looks amazing and has now well and truly been transformed into an elegant, beautiful place for our guests to retreat.
“The history of Barnett Hill makes the hotel even more charming, and adding a new lease of life with this refurbishment is just what it needed. But this is just the beginning, as phase two will be starting shortly. I think many people will be excited to see what an ex-Red Cross centre looks like when turned into a luxurious hotel.”
