The Global Business Travel Association has bought sustainability programme Project Icarus from the UK’s Institute of Travel and Meetings (ITM).
The acquisition, the terms of which remain undisclosed, will mean the programme goes global, said Michael McCormick. GBTA’s executive director and COO.
“We were looking to develop a global sustainability program, we didn’t have to look very far,” he said.
“I would like to congratulate ITM on their tremendous achievement in bringing Project ICARUS to this point and I know, together with ITM, GBTA will continue to uphold the values, principles and objectives as we develop Project ICARUS globally.”
Project Icarus was started in the UK six years ago to address sustainability issues encountered by business travel and meetings buyers and suppliers.
It educates businesses about sustainability, encouraging them to reduce their carbon emissions and recognising those that adopt best practice.
The programme will continue to be led by Bernard Harrop under its new ownership.
