Capita Business Travel has been selected to provide air, Eurostar and ferry travel management services for the UK Home Office in a deal worth up to ”3.5m ($6.88m).
As well as the normal phone booking facility, Capita will introduce an online air booking option for Home Office employees in a bid to improve tracking and comply with spend reduction of 25% during the next financial year.
”Many of our employees are required to travel for research purposes and liaison visits,” said Home Office travel manager, Bob Boxer, adding: ”The new online booking tool will provide an alternative and convenient method of booking trips and will allow enhanced tracking of where the budget is spent.”
Capita won the deal following a competitive pitch via the OGC Buying Solutions Travel framework ” the mechanism whereby UK government departments procure services.
”In the UK, industry figures suggest a take-up of 15% in booking online and we expect this to increase significantly,” said Capita Business Travel managing director, Simone Buckley (pictured). ”However, introducing online bookings to any customer must take into account its organisational culture to deliver savings against the travel budget.”
