Corporates react to financial crisis, says VDR
The demand for corporate travel in Germany could drop drastically according to the latest VDR survey.
The travel management association's poll of 199 members revealed that 32% had banned non-essential corporate travel, more than double October's figure of 14%.
Only 2% of members indicated a growth in numbers travelling, with a further 22% unaffected.
VDR president Michael Kirnberger said this reaction to the global financial crisis would only worsen matters, and called on airlines and governments to provide a solution.
He said: "Business travel is an essential part of the success of modern commerce, for instance for negotiating and setting up new contracts.
"Restricting contact with clients is potentially disastrous. It is the equivalent of the credit squeeze in the banking sector.
"Suppliers and government have to act now to halt this trend."
