The majority of business travellers want greater flexibility when staying in a hotel, according to a survey published today from hotel booking provider HRS.
The study of more than 650 people showed, in order of priority, business travellers would like to adjust their check-out time by three hours, book a hotel according to three daily time blocks and be able to book accommodation by the hour.
The research, which was also conducted with the Fraunhofer Institute, showed that 60 per cent of business travellers rarely use their hotel room for the entire time available to them, which HRS says represents a high volume of wastage.
HRS managing director Jon West said the traditional standard 3pm check-in and noon check-out is not meeting the needs of business travellers when it comes to flexibility.
“Demand for flexibility is reflected in the growing number of luxurious airline lounges, book-by-the-hour conference centres, and coffee shops packed with laptop users,” said West.
“It is evident that hotels should seriously consider the changing needs of business travellers when it comes to flexibility.”
Earlier this year, a report from HRS entitled Content is Kingfound that improving the quality of hotel content can help buyers to reduce leakage from their travel programmes.
