The number of overnight stays in Dutch hotels increased by 7.5% in the first half of 2016 compared with the same period in 2015, building on strong growth in that period.
As shown in this week's chart, Germany remained the biggest source of visitors and the number of stays increased over last year by 5.4% to 2.11 million. The UK was the second biggest source of visitors, with 1.82 million hotel stays during the first six months of the year, up 10.1% on the same period in 2015. The number of visitors from the United States grew by more than any other, up by more than 17%. India, meanwhile, was the only one of the BRIC nations that showed an increase year-on-year.

Amsterdam represents by far the largest proportion of stays, almost one third of the total. When looking at foreign visitors, Amsterdam represents half of the total number of stays.
This visitor growth is reflected in the turnover of hotel groups in the Netherlands. Turnover was up by 5.5% on the same period last year, continuing a trend that has extended since summer 2013.
