Virgin Atlantic is to suspend flights between Manchester and Las Vegas for the winter 2013/14 season.
The carrier currently flies twice-weekly between the two cities, but has decided to suspend the service for the winter schedule which starts on October 27, 2013.
“Virgin Atlantic can confirm that it will temporarily suspend its flights between Manchester and Las Vegas for the winter season and will resume services in March 2014," said Virgin in a statement. "The airline will continue to operate a year-round service to Las Vegas from Gatwick Airport.
“These are still challenging times for the airline industry and with external factors such as high fuel prices and APD, we have to deploy our aircraft to routes with the right level of demand to be financially viable.”
Thomas Cook Airlines also operates seasonal flights from Manchester to Las Vegas, with Delta codesharing on the route. The US carrier also offers a one-stop service between the two cities, via Atlanta.
British Airways launched flights between Gatwick and Las Vegas in October last year, competing with Virgin on the route, and also serves the Nevadan city from Heathrow.
