United Airlines has announced it will cancel flights to Doha later this year.
The Star Alliance member currently operates the daily Washington Dulles – Dubai – Doha service as a triangular route.
From August 30, this will become a direct Washington Dulles to Dubai service.
The move may be due to increased competition from Qatar Airways, which has been very aggressive with network expansion in recent years.
The gulf carrier is to start flying to two new destinations in the US – Miami from June 10 and Dallas/Fort Worth from July 1.
United will continue to use the Boeing 777-200 for Dubai.
