United Continental Airlines will start daily flights between Manchester and Washington DC next spring.
It will be the second US route out of Manchester for the airline, which has been flying between the northern England airport and New York since 1995.
The new route, subject to government approval, will commence on May 2, 2012 and will be operated using a Boeing 757-200 aircraft with 175 seats in a two-class configuration; 16 in BusinessFirst and 159 in economy.
Bob Schumacher, United’s managing director UK & Ireland, said the new route demonstrated the airline's “continuing commitment” to Manchester.
“As well as cutting journey times for travellers between the two cities, the new schedule will greatly increase the range of options for customers travelling beyond our hubs to destinations throughout the Americas,” he added.
Flight CO101/UA101 will leave Manchester at 1200, arriving into Washington Dulles International airport at 1508.
From Washington, flight CO100/UA100 will leave at 2206 and arrive into Manchester at 1020 the following morning.
