United Airlines has launched its first-ever flights to Edinburgh with a summer-season service through to October 5.
The summer seasonal route connects Edinburgh directly with United's hub at Chicago O'Hare International airport.
Operated by a B757-200, it begins as a five-weekly service until June 12, when it will switch to a daily service and then, on September 2, it will run four times weekly until it closes on October 5.
The aircraft will have 169 seats — 16 flat-bed in United Business First and 153 in United Economy, including 45 Economy Plus seats with added legroom and increased personal space.
Outbound flights depart Chicago at 1800, arriving in Edinburgh at 0745 the following day. The return service departs Edinburgh at 1025, arriving in Chicago at 1300 the same day.
Charles Duncan, United's vice president at O'Hare, said: "United is pleased to add new seasonal nonstop service from Chicago to Scotland's capital.
"This new route will offer direct service between the two cities and provide increased access for Scottish travellers to other destinations across the Americas, with convenient connections at the Chicago hub to United's extensive route network."
Earlier this month, United announced that it will add Tokyo Haneda to its network with a daily non-stop service from its San Francisco hub in October.
