GHANA is to gain additional links to Europe as the future of the country's national carrier remains in serious doubt. Over the past couple of months discussions have continued over the long-term future of national carrier Ghana Airways as the proposed privatisation of the company has repeatedly stalled. Although a number of interested foreign partners have come forward no firm decision has yet been taken by the government on the future of the heavilly-indebted airline. With so much uncertainty surrounding the carrier, a group of Ghanian businessmen now living in France have joined forces to establish Quincy International Airlines with a goal of establishing new links from Accra to major European business centres. According to chief executive Desmond Quincy-Jones, the new airline will launch operations to Paris on June 21, with plans to add services to London, Frankfurt, Rome and Zurich in the following months. The airline will initially operate with an Airbus A310 wet-leased from a third party, but is understood to be eventually looking to acquire a second-hand A330 for the services.
