TAP Air Portugal is to introduce its 12th route to Brazil with the start of services to Florianópolis in the southern part of the South American destination.
The Portuguese carrier will launch the route from Lisbon to Florianópolis on 3 September when it will offer three weekly flights on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
TAP plans to use Airbus A330-200 aircraft on the route featuring 244 seats in economy and 25 seats in business class.
Luís Rodrigues, TAP’s CEO, said the route to Florianópolis was “under consideration for some time” and it was particularly needed now due to the closure of Porto Alegre airport where operations have been suspended after suffering severe storm damage in May.
“An increase in supply to our biggest market, which is Brazil, is something normal and something we want,” said Rodrigues. “With this new route, TAP reinforces its commitment to continue investing to be the European airline of choice for Brazilian customers.”
With the introduction of Florianópolis, TAP will serve 12 cities in Brazil through a total of 14 routes from Lisbon and Porto. Other Brazilian destinations include São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Recife and Salvador.
