SAS has revamped its domestic and European service classes, replacing the current economy, economy extra and business services with two new products: SAS Go and SAS Plus.
The new products will come into effect in June, with SAS Go passengers benefitting from one piece of checked luggage and complimentary tea and coffee, plus the option to buy food onboard (as is currently the case for economy customers).
SAS Plus passengers will get additional benefits including a second piece of checked luggage, fast track security security and lounge access, complimentary in-flight food and drink, and double the number of Euro Bonus points.
The new products follow the implementation of the carrier’s ‘4 Excellence Next Generation’ plan at the end of last year, aimed at cutting annual costs cut by around SEK 3 billion (£278.5 million). These measures include cutting up to 6,000 jobs, salary reductions and the outsourcing of call centres and ground-handling operations.
CEO Rickard Gustafson said: "We want to make travelling easier for our customers. And this includes SAS Go and SAS Plus. For SAS simplicity is when customers receive exactly what they need. When we were developing this new concept, we based on our work on our customer needs rather than on industry standards."
SAS said that the changes would coincide with a “completely new onboard service concept, where the traditional airplane food will be replaced with a cafe and a new range that will be offered to all customers onboard”.
