Low cost carrier Ryanair is considering stopping flights from London Stansted to Glasgow Prestwick, the airline’s CEO Michael O’Leary has said.
According to reports, O’Leary said the route will be cut from the end of October. However, no formal announcement has been made.
Glasgow Prestwick Airport is located on the west coast of Scotland, 32 miles from Glasgow’s city centre.
Ryanair’s outspoken boss has also mooted the idea of expanding into BAA-run Glasgow International Airport, which is eight miles from the city centre.
The airline has started a move to more mainstream airports located closer to city centre in recent times, with a significant expansion at Manchester Airport announced earlier this week.
In a final revelation to media in Scotland, O’Leary also said he was still considering launching transatlantic flights.
He said there were “huge opportunities” for no-frills airlines on flights from Europe to the US, and he is currently searching for the right planes for the job.
