Talks between Virgin Atlantic and pilots union British Air Line Pilots Association (BALPA) came to an end yesterday (July 6).
A decision on whether a deal has been reached has not yet been announced.
A short statement from BALPA revealed little about what was achieved during the talks:
“BALPA remains in talks with Virgin Atlantic. These talks are scheduled to finish today and BALPA National Executive Committee will be discussing the way forward tomorrow.”
A spokeswoman from Virgin Atlantic suggested that a deal may be in sight, however.
“We have been in extensive discussions with BALPA and we remain committed to finding a solution as soon as possible,” she said.
Some 97% of BALPA’s Virgin members voted to strike, from a turnout of 94%, the union announced on June 21.
The dispute is over a lack of pay increases for pilots at Virgin, who BALPA said have seen no rise in pay since 2008.
Legally, a walkout must start by Tuesday July 19, four weeks after BALPA notified Virgin of the results of the strike ballot.
