Qatar Airways will join the Oneworld alliance as a full member with effect from October 30.
The Middle Eastern carrier has received clearance to join the alliance after completing its implementation programme, which was sponsored by British Airways.
Qatar becomes the first of the “big three” carriers in the Gulf region (the other two are Emirates and Etihad) to join a major airline alliance. Qatar announced its intention to join Oneworld in October 2012.
The move means that from October 30, the three million members of Qatar's Privilege Club loyalty programme will receive frequent flyer privileges whenever they fly with any Oneworld member airline.
These privileges include earning and redeeming Qmiles for awards, and earning Qpoints for tier status when flying with all Oneworld member airlines.
