Australian airline Qantas has signed a deal to buy 110 A320 family aircraft.
The order, which includes 32 A320s and 78 next-generation A320neo planes, is the largest single order in Australian history.
The new planes will be used across the Qantas group, which includes Jetstar and Qantas International, on short and medium-haul domestic and international flights.
The A320 will be used as the launch aircraft for Qantas new airline Jetstar Japan, when it launches next year.
It will also be used for Qantas’ as yet unnamed premium airline, details of which have not yet been released.
Alan Joyce, Qantas’ CEO, said: “The A320 Family’s outstanding operational efficiency and comfort, plus its environmental credentials, make it the right choice for the Qantas Group.”
The next generation A320neo aircraft has more fuel efficient engines and “sharklet” wing tips, which Boeing claims together improve fuel and CO2 emissions by 15%.
