MAERSK AIR, owned by the Danish transport conglomerate A P Moeller, has come up with an innovative in-flight catering scheme. From 1 July, Maersk Air passengers out of Gatwick will no longer be served traditional, obligatory 'air meals' in flight. Instead, the airline will introduce a choice of quality food for all passengers travelling in its business or economy class cabins. Business class travellers will be offered separate check-in facilities, the use of a business lounge prior to departure, and once on board will be seated in plush leather seats, considered to be amongst the best of any short haul airline. Under the new service quality concept, they will be offered a choice of fresh, high quality food and fine wines from a menu with a significantly improved assortment ” free of charge. Economy class travellers will be offered great value for money fares, pre-assigned seats at check-in, and on board will be able to purchase from a menu of the same quality caf”-style sandwiches, salads and fresh fruit as offered in business class. Children will also benefit with new special menus as well as toys. It is a first in Europe and will be closely monitored by other carriers. http://www.maersk-air.com
