Lufthansa Group will introduce a new Economy Basic fare for select short- and medium-haul flights, effective next month.
The fare, bookable from 28 April for travel from 19 May, will be offered across Lufthansa's flagship brand and on flights operated by SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Discover Airlines, Lufthansa City Airlines, and Air Dolomiti.
The Economy Basic fare will be exclusively accessible through the carriers’ websites and NDC channels, and will not be distributed via the GDS.
The new fare offers “an attractive entry-level price” and includes one personal item, such as a laptop bag or small backpack. Travellers can purchase carry-on or checked baggage as an add-on service. With this addition, Lufthansa Group now offers four fare options in Economy Class.
In a separate update this week, Lufthansa detailed additional cuts to its summer schedule as a result of rising jet fuel prices. Following the closure of Lufthansa CityLine – which will result in 20,000 fewer flights – the group this week also introduced "short-term" capacity adjustments at Lufthansa Airlines, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and ITA Airways that will see it cancel 120 daily short-haul flights until the end of May.
Flights from Frankfurt to Bydgoszcz and Rzeszów (Poland) as well as to Stavanger (Norway) have been temporarily removed from the current flight schedule. Meanwhile, 10 connections – to Heringsdorf, Cork, Gdańsk, Ljubljana, Rijeka, Sibiu, Stuttgart, Trondheim, Tivat and Wrocław – are being "consolidated" within the group via other hubs.
